Club News From Michele April 23, 2013

Good Morning Snap Avon!

It's already the end of April so my question is, "Are you still striving to reach those New Year's fitness resolutions?"  If not, I say...let us help you!  We are committed and want to see you reach your goals.  Small, consistent changes are the magic...not endless hours here at the gym (although we love to see you!).  If you are struggling, please reply to this email and let us know how we can help.

Now for club news:

1. Look out for an email tomorrow from Brian announcing all the teams and prizes for his Snap Fitness Rough n Tough Challenge, which begins May 1st.  The community response has been really great and we are grateful for every donation we have received.

2.  Have you heard of Jesse's Journey yet?  My husband Jesse is a regular guy who does NOT like to exercise.  We couldn't be more opposite.  Jesse has decided to embark on a fitness journey utilizing all of Snap's resources including the assessment, expert personal training staff, 5am-12am club access, isagenix, and eating out at restaurants that are Snap & Michele Approved.  He had been candidly documenting his journey so far on his new Facebook page so I encourage you to follow and show him some support!  Click here to get to his page:  http://www.facebook.com/jessesjourney2013

3.  *NEW* Michele Approved LUNCH menu launches tomorrow at The Meat House of Avon!  Head on over for a healthy protein packed lunch with menu options ranging from salads to delicious wraps.  This is the perfect compliment to our seafood lunch menu at Deepwater Seafood.  I'd love to hear you feedback when you visit!  Pictures encouraged!

4. Katey's Wednesday night yoga class is really great...but poorly attended. I'm doing a poll -- please email me if you are interested in yoga and would attend if I changed the time to 5pm instead of 7pm on Wednesdays.  Your feedback is appreciated.

5. You will notice the change in the method of cleaning the machines is now a spray bottle of disinfectant rather than wipes.  The wipes were really dry and not as sanitary in my opinion so please look out for the spray bottles always wipe the machines down when finished to prevent the spread of germs.  Please be sure to spray on cloth and not directly on the equipment.

6.  I would like to increase the membership at the gym and I appreciate all referrals -- so for each new member you refer to us, you will receive one free month.  If you refer three friends for 14 day trials, you will be entered into a drawing for a free iPod on August 31st.

7. Thank you to everyone for helping us keep the club clean by bringing a change of shoes and racking your weights!

All for now -- ROCK YOUR WEEK -- and remember....I'm always listening and looking for way to improve the club.

Introducing Jesse's Journey!

Jesse Is On His Way!!

Snap Fitness Avon is excited to announce that Jesse Pellegatto has decided to start a fitness journey with the help of our club!  Jesse has already candidly started blogging about his experience on his new Facebook page entitled “Jesse’s Journey,” which can be found by clicking this link: www.facebook.com/jessesjourney2013 .  Jesse is not a big fan of working out, so any and all cheers and messages of encouragement will be greatly appreciated by him as he works hard in the club to make fitness part of his lifestyle.  Below is Jesse's first post this week which helps you get to know Jesse a little bit and better understand where he is coming from:

“Hi there, I'm Jesse. I have almost always been a bigger guy. 6'4" and 265lbs is about where I have been for the last few years. I pretty much hate to exercise and like my beer and a good meal. Funny thing is, my wife is a Professional Figure Competitor and has been in the health and nutrition game for over 10 years. They do say opposites attract LOL. As she competes and goes through her inevitable show prep and a more strict diet, I follow along and start eating healthier. I lose a little bit of weight going into a show as well. But once the show was over for me, I always "binge". I am sure anyone who has struggled with staying fit can understand that one. You go along the week, eating well and BAM a surprise party comes for your good friend on a Wednesday. You say, well, it's a party, I'll have a drink or 2 and maybe some cake. Then the next day comes and you think, well, I already blew my diet for the week and hey, it's Thursday, why don't I grab dinner out, oooh, the desert looks great too. Before I know it I am eating big meals, drinks and deserts daily and packing on the pounds. Well, the Yo Yo dieting has got to end. It effects my mental state, obviously my physical state and is basically just a nuisance to live that way. I am sick of feeling like I am at the mercy of my cravings and would like to be on a more even keel. Well, what do you know, my wife just took over SNAP Fitness in Avon CT, so now I have 0 excuses right! That's it, I am going to put my best foot forward and dedicate my energy to a healthier and more muscular self. Follow me on my journey as I Train, Eat (and Complain) my way to a better me!”

As you can see Jesse has committed to making a lifestyle change, and will be working hard in the coming months to improve his health and fitness.  To do so, he will be utilizing both the the 5am-12am access to the club and the personal training staff at Snap Fitness for his workouts.  So far Jesse completed his fitness assessment with head trainer Brian Szmigiel and attended 3 personal training sessions this week with Brian, Tynan Santana, and Katey Hurley.  You can view pictures and his thoughts on his first full week on his Facebook page.  Also on his to-do list is a healthy and nutritious diet that will focus on whole foods, consistency, and plenty of variety.  Jesse will be getting help on meal choices by utilizing the Snap Fitness “Michele Approved” menus at La Trattoria (dinner), The Village Cafe and Bistro (breakfast), Deepwater Seafood (lunch), and coming next week at The Meat House Avon (lunch). Jesse will also be using Isagenix, an all-natural organic solution to overall wellness that addresses nutritional deficiencies and is also backed by SCIENCE.  We are all proud of Jesse for giving Snap Fitness the opportunity to use all of our tools to help him reach is fitness goals.  Stay tuned to both Jesse's Journey on Facebook and how about giving us a "LIKE" on Facebook at www.facebook.com/snapfitnessavonct as well.

WEEKLY CLUB NEWS FROM MICHELE!!

Hello Snap Avon!

I hope you are all having a wonderful week so far!  Tomorrow is Friday and we have a lot going on at the club this weekend....so come on in and join us!

Here are this week's club announcements!

1. You might have seen a new face at the club!  Katey Hurley has joined our team of personal trainers, group class instructors, and Snap Fitness Rock Stars as a graduate of UCONN with a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences and she is an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer.  Her skills are not only one-one-one personal training (she is perfect for those who prefer a female trainer), but also group fitness instruction so she will be spearheading our recently added 9am classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  She will also be taking on the Yoga Stretch class on Wed evening and Saturday morning ANDDDDD she is going to be teaching the new Silver Sneakers classes ---- which start next week on MONDAY and THURSDAY at 11:30am.  Katey has already received rave reviews from members this week so I hope you will all welcome her as you come into the club. GO KATEY GO!

2.  Calling all people looking for a fun 12 WEEK FITNESS CHALLENGE to keep you motivated and goal oriented!  Brian's Rough-N-Tough Snap Fitness Challenge starts soon so be sure to sign up with Jessica at the front desk to reserve your spot.  Attached is the flyer with more info.  An example of one of the weekly challenges is the "Time Based Relay Event" --- one person from each team performs one of the exercises before handing off the baton to the next person to start their portion of the challenge--- 1 mile run/jog, 3 miles recumbent bike, 120 Bodyweight squats (90 degrees), 100 floor crunches.  The idea is to pick your strongest team member for the applicable exercise, and complete the challenge in the shortest amount of time.  The top 4 teams will win points.  Points will accrue for weekly prizes and then on the GRAND CHALLENGE day, the 12 week mark, you compete for all the GRAND PRIZES!

Brian has been working hard securing all kinds of prizes for you guys and here are just a few businesses that are just as fired up as we are for this 12 week event (we welcome more!):
Orvis
Battison's Dry Cleaning
Edible Arrangements
Eastern Mountain Sports
Pasta Co Cafe
Dick's Sporting Good's

3. Snap Fitness Member Brad Seaman is currently hosting Monday night basketball clinics at the club. Check out the shirt he made with the Snap Fitness logo for all the kids (attached)!! He is offering a special "skills and drills" clinic this Saturday from 8:30-12:30pm at the Avon Middle School with former NBA player Adam Harrington for all competitive kids ages 5th grade and up.  If interested contact Brad/Adam at iabu@aol.com by Friday at 5pm.  Their is $50.

4.  FREEEEEEE Silver Sneakers classes start Monday!!!  So ALL Silver Sneakers members COME ON INTO THE CLUB Mondays and Thursdays at 11:30am and work on that fitness!  All non-Silver Sneakers members are encouraged to come as well.  It would be just a $5 drop in for non-Silver Sneakers members (or $15/month unlimited).

5.  It's officially time for me to start "dialing in" for my Pro show in June in Miami.  I'm starting things off with an Isagenix 9 day deep cleanse to rev up the engines and then it's slow and steady nutritional changes (my training is the SAME intensity year round) for the next 13 weeks.  NO fat burners, NO diuretics, NO double sessions of cardio, NO drugs --- my motto is EAT LEAN TRAIN CLEAN.  Need I say more?  ANYTHING is possible with the right nutrition.  I welcome you to join me for the next 13 weeks (and beyond this is a LIFESTYLE not a DIET) with your own custom nutrition plan that is EASY TO FOLLOW.  Many of you have already done so and have witnessed your own incredible results (MARCIA RUSSO YOU ARE INCREDIBLE with your full pant size loss in one month!).  Email me if you want to ROCK. :)

6.  Our pictures last week didn't load so we are re-attaching them.  Pics are of our front page story in the Avon news, our participation in the O'Hartford 5k run, the NEW Snap Fitness Deepwater Lobster Lunch Menu, and Brian's Rough-N-Tough Fitness Challenge flyer.

7.  As always, thank you for racking your weights and changing your shoes :)  GO SNAP AVON GO!

Have a great week!

Regards,

The New (Ab)Normal

CDC The New (Ab)normal

The portion size now is more than FOUR TIMES what it was in the 50's... and while that has grown... so has our population... and I'm not talking about demographics so much as the numbers on the scale and inches around the middle.  Time for a change.  Stop by the club to chat about a nutrition plan that will work for YOU.  After all, if you eat like everyone else, you will most certainly end up looking like everyone else.
