Simsbury Free Bike at Snap Fitness Avon!

Pattie & Ty, manning the table!
Simsbury Free Bike was here at the club on Thursday night to chat about their program a bit with our club members.  If you missed it, then you totally missed out.  Pattie came in with two big banners, a full table with trail maps, and an adaptive cycle (you use your arms to power it)!  The program is a non-profit organization aiming to increase interest in cycling in the community of Simsbury and the surrounding areas.

If you're interested in the program, all you have to do is drop off a $10 deposit to rent a bicycle and helmet, and you're off and running (or in this case, riding).  When you return the bike, you get your $10 back.  It's THAT easy!!  They have "cycle stations" along the Rail to Trail where you can stop to grab a bike.  Currently the only "Cycle Station" that I know about is at Andy's Market (836 Hopmeadow Street), but I heard that they are announcing 6 more on May 1st!  AND, for a $1 donation (Pattie told me that $1 goes to printing more), you can also get a map of the trail.  I grabbed one while she was here.

An adaptive cycle from their group!
Pattie and I chatted a little bit about the People For Bikes.org program that we have a petition for here in the club (be sure to sign it!), as well as the state of bike lanes and paths here in Avon.  We also talked about how scary it is to walk along 44, let alone try to cross the road (no crosswalks!).  If there is interest, I'm willing to meet up with people to grab some bikes and helmets and go for rides on the weekends!

The best part about this program is that they have an adaptive cycle program as well.  It's great because that means everyone can get out cycling, moving, and enjoying the trail!  If you check out the photos that I attached below, you'll see a certain "celebrity" club member on her very own adaptive cycle!

If you missed the opportunity to chat with Pattie about the program, and would like to do so, you're in luck!  She'll be back again this Wednesday night at 6 PM to chat about the program with you!
