Michele's Weekly Club Update!! March 12, 2013

Here are this week's announcements:

1. CPR/AED Class -- FREE this Saturday at 11:30am for all members!  There are only 12 slots available and we are almost booked up so email us quick with your commitment and we'll "save you" a spot.  (ok bad joke).  Thank you again to our Snap Member and EMT Rob Sherry for volunteering his time for YOU.  GO ROB!

2. There are two 5k runs coming up in Hartford.  One on March 17th and one on March 24th.  Jessica and a few Snap members are planning to run the one on the 17th (Max's O'Hartford 5K) so if you would like to join let us know asap so we can have a shirt for you :)  Here is the link to register:

3.  Be sure to please swipe your card during staffed hours even though the door may be unlocked.  We need to stalk, I mean, track all accesses for your protection :)

4.  Silver Sneakers classes to start April 1st.  The classes will be late morning -- please email me your "vote" for days of the week!  Class description below.

5.  Speaking of classes.................we added 9am Aerobics for Everyone on Tu/Th morning per member requests......but only 1 or 2 people are coming.....  The class is more of a "boot camp light" and not as intense as the boot camp classes, but not a breeze either.  Great total body conditioning class.  So we would love to see more of you that requested morning classes come on in and join us!

6.  Great job everyone for bringing a change of shoes! And for racking your weights --- I think I only had to rack 45lb plates in my high heels ONCE last week.  Woo!

All for now ---- have a great week everyone!  And remember -- I'm always listening!

Calling Team Snap: Iron Horse Half/10K/5K Sunday, June 3, 2012

So listen, it's time for TEAM SNAP to step up to the plate and hit this one out of the park.  I'm willing to do the 5K, and could possibly be persuaded to run the 10K.  Carly is in, and I'm looking for some more people to join us.  Let us know, we'll be happy to have you!  We can certainly get some longer runs in these next few weeks together to help prepare for it as well!  LET US KNOW!

Did You Forget About Running Club?

I hope not!  Because we have a lot of fun chatting about everything from the weather to the events of the previous day.  We chat about our plans for the weekend, how we are feeling, and anything else that may possibly come up while you're running along looking at the trees and nature around you.  But just in case you forgot today, here's our path and pace for the day!  Today we took it nice and slow, and finished 2.3 miles in about 27 minutes.  It was really nice, and we enjoy having someone to chat with while we jog along.

If you're interested in doing something different, or just getting off your butt on Saturday mornings, we have been meeting at the club at 9 AM and going for a run outside over at Lawrence Ave.  It's a quick warm-up to get over there, and then we complete our loop.  We are thinking that soon we will need to meet at the Rail to Trail and start logging more miles!  That was one of our many topics of discussion this morning while we moved along.

SO, next Saturday, don't forget that running club is an option, and it is whatever you want it to be.  It's a buddy to run with, someone to push your pace, or just a chance to do a different cardio workout.  Whatever you want it to be, we'll make it happen for you.  Sometimes people run ahead, sometimes people hang back and take it slow, but the end result is that we're all out there being active and going for it together! :)

Sitting is Killing You (Infographic)

Now, I know I've shared this with the club before, but it's SUCH a strong message and makes SO MANY great points, that I may post it monthly, just to keep reminding you to MOVE your body!  We, as human beings, were made to move.  We need to be in motion.  And our bodies don't respond well when we don't.  So check out this little Infographic and find some new/innovative/awesome/fun/funny ways to move.  Even if it's a dance party in the break room to your favorite song twice a day (What? I never do that), or a push-up competition with the person in the cubicle next to you (Again, I've never done that...).  Take the stairs, not the elevator.  Get to work two minutes earlier than normal so you can park in the farthest spot from the door... and WALK.  There are many ways to increase the amount of time you spend moving a day, and I (Jessica) am currently brainstorming a recliner that is also a recumbent bicycle for TV time at home.  Okay, not really, but it's okay if you want to admit you liked that idea for about 2 seconds before you thought about it too much.
