HBO Weight of the Nation Clip 7: Are All Calories Created Equal?

It is great to be aware of the calorie-content of your food, but don't make calories your primary focus in weight loss.  While portion control is important (KNOW YOUR SERVING SIZES), your focus should be on fueling your body with the things that it NEEDS to function.  Skip the saturated fats; stick with the unsaturated guys.  Try to get enough protein, and always, always, always eat lots of vegetables and fruits!!

HBO Weight of the Nation Clip 5: Healthcare Costs are Greatly Impacted by Obesity

This is not good news for ANYONE.  This is why small businesses can no longer afford to offer health insurance benefits to their employees.  Perhaps free gym memberships and a certain number of personal training sessions should be free through health insurance agencies as a preventative cost.  Maybe even a monthly visit to a dietician or nutritionist should be included to help people understand what healthy eating is, how to read food labels, and what to look for in the grocery store.  It's a small step but it could have a great impact on our obesity crisis.  After all, the healthier your employees are, the more productive.  And the fewer sick days they take!

HBO Weight of the Nation- Clip #4: Obesity Puts You at Risk For Variety of Illnesses

Comorbidities to obesity include hypertension, cancer, arteriosclerosis, Type II Diabetes, and many other ailments which are PREVENTABLE!!!  Learn the best ways to prevent them, and find healthy ways to fit activity into your life DAILY.  A great way to start is by monitoring your activity with a pedometer (or our easyFIT accelerometer, only $49!); after a week you find our your average daily activity, and then you begin to set goals for "X" number of steps or points a day.  You can slowly build yourself up to specific activities like jogging, biking, or swimming.  You'll be amazed at not only the amount of weight (and inches!)you lose, but how GREAT you feel after some moderate to high intensity work outs!!  Check in with us if you have questions about pedometers, easyFIT, activities, or ANYTHING else.  We'll be happy to help!

HBO's Weight of the Nation Video #2: The Impact of Obesity on the Heart

This is disgusting.  And scary.  And preventable.  Watch and learn, then talk to your doctor about ways to prevent this not only in yourself, but your family members and friends.  We have to set the tone for the next generation today.  No if's, and's, or but's about it.  We need action NOW.

If you haven't viewed this series yet, you should. Share it with everyone you know. Make it the new "Kony2012" ... do whatever you need to do to ensure that as many people see this as humanly possible. This is the first generation with a shorter life expectancy than the last. Our children are obese. And it is ALL preventable.

How Happy is the Meal You’re Paying For (Infographic)

Alright, when this Infographic rolled across my desk[top], I couldn't resist sharing it on our blog.  It makes some really great points about the childhood obesity epidemic, and the role that marketing toward children has possibly (most likely, definitely) played in it.  If you love it, please feel free to share it.  The source is here at the bottom for you to copy and paste onto your own blog or website!
